- → None: Etsy’s last three annual reports publish no median seller income (FY2023 to FY2025 10-Ks)
Etsy seller income is one of the most searched and least documented numbers in online selling. Etsy does not publish an average or a median. What it does publish is enough to work out a defensible figure. In 2025, Etsy Marketplace sold $10,460.7 million of goods across 5.6 million active sellers, about $1,868 each (Etsy FY2025 10-K).
That is gross sales, not profit. Below are the Etsy seller income numbers Etsy’s filings support, why popular statistics disagree, and what nobody outside Etsy can know.
1 Etsy Seller Income: The Average Active Seller Sold About $1,868 in 2025
Etsy Marketplace recorded $10,460.7 million in gross merchandise sales (GMS) in 2025 and ended the year with 5.6 million active sellers. Dividing one by the other gives about $1,868 per seller, or roughly $156 a month, before fees, materials, shipping and taxes.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Etsy Marketplace GMS, full year 2025 | $10,460.7 million | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Etsy Marketplace active sellers, Dec 31, 2025 | 5.6 million | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| GMS per active seller, 2025 (our calculation) | about $1,868 | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Etsy Marketplace active buyers, Dec 31, 2025 | 86.5 million | Etsy Q4 2025 release |
GMS excludes shipping fees and is net of refunds. It is not Etsy’s revenue and not a seller’s profit: materials, packaging, shipping, advertising and taxes all come out of it. If you are still deciding whether to open a shop, our guide to selling on Etsy covers the steps.
2 Why Etsy Seller Income Statistics Disagree: Sales per Seller Range From $336 to $1,946
The same Etsy filings support very different per-seller numbers depending on which marketplaces and which year you include. Etsy Marketplace alone produced about $1,868 per seller in 2025 and about $1,946 in 2024. All Etsy-owned marketplaces together produced about $1,459 in 2023, and Depop about $336 in 2025.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| GMS per active Marketplace seller, 2024 (our calculation) | about $1,946 | Etsy FY2024 10-K |
| GMS per active seller, all marketplaces, 2023 (our calculation) | about $1,459 | Etsy FY2023 10-K |
| Depop GMS, full year 2025 | $1,074.9 million | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Depop active sellers, Dec 31, 2025 | 3.2 million | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| GMS per active Depop seller, 2025 (our calculation) | about $336 | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Commonly cited: about $1,450 per Etsy seller per year | Unverified: no primary source traced | Repeated by statistics sites |
The often-repeated Etsy seller income figure of roughly $1,450 per seller is commonly cited, though no primary source is traceable. It reproduces from 2023 data covering Etsy.com, Reverb, Depop and Elo7 together, and it is frequently labelled as 2024 data.
That definition matters for any Etsy seller income average: a shop that paid a listing fee but made no sale still counts in the denominator. Etsy also completed the sale of Depop to eBay on July 30, 2026 (Etsy Q2 2026 shareholder letter). That makes Etsy Marketplace the cleaner benchmark. Seller rules keep changing too; we covered what actually changed in Etsy’s 2026 policy update.
3 Who Sells on Etsy? 89% Are Businesses of One
Etsy’s Seller Census, a 2024 survey of 2,402 sellers run by Ipsos, describes very small businesses. In it, 89% are businesses of one, 97% work from home, and 29% say their creative business is their sole occupation.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Businesses of one | 89% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
| Sold for the first time on Etsy | 59% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
| Consider their shop a business | 70% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
| Creative business is their sole occupation | 29% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
| Use the income for household expenses such as bills, rent and food | 38% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
| Sell on other channels as well | 51% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
| Average share of business time spent making or designing | 52% | Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey |
These figures come from a 2024 survey in six core markets (the US, UK, Germany, France, Canada and Australia). They predate the 2025 sales data. They still explain a modest Etsy seller income average: most sellers are one-person operations, and about half also sell elsewhere. If you sell in more than one place, compare marketplaces before committing. Sellers who want to cut materials and shipping costs often look at selling digital downloads on Etsy. 4 What Etsy Takes From Every Sale: a 6.5% Fee Plus Three More Charges
Etsy’s 10-K lists four seller charges: a 6.5% transaction fee and a $0.20 listing fee per item. Payments processing typically runs 3.0% to 6.5% plus a flat per-order fee, and Offsite Ads sales cost 12% or 15%. Across the company, revenue equalled 24.2% of GMS in 2025.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of each sale, including shipping charged | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Listing fee | $0.20 per item, for four months or until sold | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Payments processing fee | Typically 3.0% to 6.5% plus a flat fee per order that varies by country | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Offsite Ads fee | 12% or 15%, only on sales from Etsy ads on third-party platforms | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Revenue take rate, full year 2025 (all marketplaces) | 24.2% | Etsy Q4 2025 release |
| Revenue take rate, Q2 2026 (Etsy Marketplace) | 25.9% | Etsy Q2 2026 shareholder letter |
The take rate is revenue divided by GMS. It blends every fee, including optional services like on-site advertising, so Etsy seller income after fees cannot be read off either rate. Even so, Etsy’s revenue equals roughly a quarter of the GMS that flows through it. For each charge in detail, see our breakdown of what Etsy charges and the companion page on fees for sellers. The calculator below applies them to your Etsy seller income.
5 Etsy Marketplace Sales Rose 7.5% in Q2 2026, but Seller Counts Are Harder to Track
Etsy Marketplace GMS grew 7.5% year over year to $2.6 billion in Q2 2026, its third consecutive quarter of growth. The letter reported no active-seller count, so the latest seller figure remains 5.6 million from December 31, 2025.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Etsy Marketplace GMS, Q2 2026 | $2.6 billion, up 7.5% year over year | Etsy Q2 2026 shareholder letter |
| Consolidated active sellers, 2023 | 9.035 million | Etsy FY2023 10-K |
| Consolidated active sellers, 2024 | 8.134 million (down 10.0%) | Etsy FY2024 10-K |
| Consolidated active sellers, 2025 | 8.762 million (up 7.7%) | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
| Average purchase frequency per active buyer, 2025 | About 3 purchase days; about half bought once | Etsy FY2025 10-K |
Do not read the consolidated seller counts as one trend: Reverb was sold on June 2, 2025 and Depop in July 2026, so the mix changed. Etsy also introduced a seller set-up fee in 2024. It said the 2025 decline in active sellers reflected its “anticipated and intentional impact” (Etsy FY2025 10-K). Because about half of buyers purchased only once in 2025, being found matters; see how search ranking works on Etsy. Our Etsy Profit Engine covers launching and ranking digital product listings.
6 What Nobody Can Tell You About Etsy Seller Income
Etsy’s 2023, 2024 and 2025 annual reports contain no median seller income, no income distribution and no top-seller share of GMS. Any figure claiming to show typical or top-tier earnings must come from elsewhere.
| Metric | Value | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Median Etsy seller income | Not published | Etsy FY2023, FY2024 and FY2025 10-Ks (text search) |
| Share of GMS from top sellers | Not published | Etsy FY2023, FY2024 and FY2025 10-Ks (text search) |
| Average of about $1,450 per seller per year | Unverified: origin not traced | Repeated by statistics sites |
So when a video, course or statistics page quotes an Etsy seller income figure, ask which marketplace, which year, and whether it is sales or profit. Income claims are a staple of course marketing, which is why we wrote a guide to spotting a fake guru. For how Etsy compares with other side hustles, see our side hustle earnings roundup.

Methodology
Every figure in this Etsy seller income analysis comes from five primary Etsy documents. They are three annual reports, the Q4 2025 release and the Q2 2026 letter. Per-seller figures are our own division of reported GMS by reported active sellers. Third-party statistics pages in our searches were not cited because they do not link to a primary source.
- Sources cited: 5 primary Etsy documents (one with 2026 data, two with 2025 data, two older filings for 2023 and 2024)
- Data range: 2023 to Q2 2026; the Seller Census reflects a 2024 survey
- Limitations: no median income or sales distribution is published; per-seller figures are gross-sales averages, not profit; Etsy rounds seller counts; the Q2 2026 letter reports none.
Frequently Asked Questions About Etsy Seller Income
How much does the average Etsy seller make?
Etsy does not publish average or median seller income. Dividing 2025 Marketplace GMS of $10,460.7 million by 5.6 million active sellers gives about $1,868 in gross sales per seller. That is roughly $156 a month, before fees, materials and shipping. (Etsy FY2025 10-K)
How many active sellers does Etsy have?
Etsy Marketplace had 5.6 million active sellers at December 31, 2025. Etsy’s consolidated count, including Depop, was 8.762 million. Because Depop was sold to eBay on July 30, 2026, the Marketplace figure is now the cleaner benchmark for tracking Etsy seller income. (Etsy FY2025 10-K; Q2 2026 letter)
What fees does Etsy charge sellers?
Etsy’s 10-K lists a 6.5% transaction fee and a $0.20 listing fee per item. Payments processing is typically 3.0% to 6.5% plus a flat per-order fee, and Offsite Ads sales cost 12% or 15%. Etsy’s full-year 2025 take rate was 24.2% of GMS. (Etsy FY2025 10-K; Q4 2025 release)
Is selling on Etsy a full-time job for most sellers?
Not for most. In Etsy’s 2024 Seller Census, 29% said their creative business is their sole occupation. 89% are businesses of one, and 70% consider their shop a business. About 38% use the income for household expenses like bills and rent. (Etsy Seller Census, 2024 survey)
Why do Etsy seller income statistics disagree?
They mix scopes and years. The often-repeated figure of about $1,450 per seller reproduces from 2023 data covering Etsy, Reverb, Depop and Elo7 together. Etsy Marketplace alone works out to about $1,868 for 2025, while Depop sellers average about $336. (Etsy FY2023 and FY2025 10-Ks)
Is Etsy still growing in 2026?
Yes, by sales. Etsy Marketplace GMS grew 7.5% year over year to $2.6 billion in Q2 2026, its third straight quarter of growth. GMS per active buyer rose 2.8% to $124. Etsy did not report an active-seller count in that letter. (Etsy Q2 2026 shareholder letter)
